Four by twelve, twenty ten.
Four artists, twelve colors, 48 art quilts.
All art quilts twenty inches by ten inches. One piece from each artist each month.
How I did it: it's all in layers. The bottom layer is the pieced fabric (green with the fuschia bar at the bottom). I then stenciled flowers using Tsukeniko inks on the base layer. I also stamped a couple of different designs using the inks. I set the inks using a hot iron.
For the next layer I used Photoshop to create several different versions of the same flower, fading the color out a little bit with each step (9 steps) until I removed the color completely. I added fusible web to the back of each photograph and cut out the flower motifs.
The fusible web-backed flowers were then laid onto the base and fused into place. I also fused a few small squares of the fuschia fabric from the challenge bundle.
For the next layer, I printed the original flower and several related flowers onto silk organza using an inkjet printer. On one of the photos I added text. The organza was backed with a sheet fusible web (Misty Fuse) and cut and layered on top of the other layers.
An additional text layer of organza was fused into place, and small strips of the fuschia fabric were added.
The quilting was done with a 100-wt silk thread to blend with the background, and then with a 40-wt poly thread for the stitched script.
The edge was satin-stitched, going over the edges twice.
